The Finns, led by Ahonen and top goal scorer Jani Rita, awaited the Czechs in the gold medal game, and it was another tight affair. Vaclav Nedorost scored the winner in the second period as the Czechs prevailed 2-1 to win their second straight title. Although the playoff games were close, the Czechs swept the awards show, claiming all three trophies. Tomas Duba was the top goaltender, Rostislav Klesla was the best defenceman, and Pavel Brendl, who won the scoring title with 10 points, was the top forward. Konerko had three hits for the White Sox, including an eighth-inning double that moved him past Frank Thomas atop the teams career total bases list.
